US Cyber Challenge & Virginia Tech Host Cybersecurity Competition & Award Ceremony at Eastern Regional Cyber Camp

Arlington, VA, June 24, 2015 – This Friday, June 26th, participants of the annual US Cyber Challenge (USCC) Eastern Regional Cyber Camp will compete in a “Capture-the-Flag” competition to demonstrate their knowledge and skill of cybersecurity and vie for (ISC)2 scholarships. The competition is open to the media.

This new competition was created by cybersecurity professionals Doug Logan, Alex Rams and Mike McGinty for the purpose of providing a free-form testing environment for camp participants to prove their ability level. The competition is a digital environment where participants are tasked to find vulnerabilities – with a flag of varying point value designated to each vulnerability depending on the difficulty level – and covers a vast array of topics in the security field including forensics and secure configurations.

An award ceremony will follow the competition and include comments from Dr. Scott Midkiff, CIO and VP for Information Technology, Virginia Tech; Doug Logan, CEO, Cyber Ninjas; Frank Shinault, Representative, (ISC)2; and Karen S. Evans, National Director, US Cyber Challenge.
