About Us
Cybersecurity Workforce Development Division
The need for skilled cyber security practitioners, researchers and mentors has never been more critical, as the volume and complexity of cyber attacks, vulnerabilities and online scams continue to escalate. Cyber security has become a national priority. Industry experts agree on the importance of recruiting and retaining individuals capable of stopping threats to our information systems and overall digital infrastructure.
The mission of the Cybersecurity Workforce Development (CWD) Division is to promote career opportunities and develop a path along which talented Americans can advance their education and skills and engage in careers as cyber security professionals. In support of this mission, CWD offers competitions and camps, and serves as the Chair and coordinating arm of the U.S. Cyber Challenge.
Competitions & Camps
In 2011, CWD will concentrate on the following competitions:
- Cyber Foundations High school competitions targeting the key areas of knowledge most important for success in cyber security (networking, operating systems, and system administration) professions.
- Cyber Quests An on-line competition that tests students’ abilities to identify vulnerabilities in a virtual network and answer questions related to their findings.

U.S. Cyber Challenge
The U.S. Cyber Challenge is a coalition of public-private sector entities collaborating to enhance the workforce with the next generation of cyber security professionals through skill development activities, mentoring, resources and the facilitation of scholarship, internship and employment opportunities.
